■IN REGARDS TO THE MTV VMA’S
The MTV VMA (Video Music Awards) held in the United States is an awards ceremony honoring the best in the music video medium. The MTV EMA (Europe Music Awards) is an extension and European version of such. First held in Berlin, Germany in 1994, the EMA is one of the largest music awards ceremonies held every year in various cities across Europe with last year’s awards ceremony held in Rotterdam, Netherlands. While bearing “Europe” in its name, the MTV EMA’s has extended beyond its geographical borders as an award ceremony that features top artists from all over the world, truly establishing itself worldwide. Far from inferior to that of the original VMA Award’s, the MTV EMA has amassed a great amount of support from music fans. Given its traditional method of having the “music award chosen by fans”, the MTV EMA award is ultimately determined by MTV viewers from not just Europe, but from around the world. This method of allowing fans to reflect the outcome of the award thus further demonstrates the value and honor associated with an EMA. Another highlight of the MTV EMA’s is it’s gathering of the most popular artists from the world who may not be recognized normally.
■WHAT IS THE “BEST LOCAL ACT” AWARD?
One of the MTV EMA’s featured awards is it’s “Best Local Act” Award. Truly one of a kind, awarding artists from across the globe which are determined by the votes of MTV viewers. Chosen amongst (5) artists/nominees from Japan, the artist who receives the most support from the votes of music fans receives a trophy that not only honors their achievement as the winner of the “Best Japan Act” Award, but allows the artist to become amongst those breaking history for receiving an EMA, and thus engraves their likeness and name.
